No such thing as "random"...there's only chaos...subjectively, you can call
something random, implying that, to you, it's random but it actually isn't
in reality...
Check out my other post here; It is common to try to specialise evolution
into just biological arenas BUT evolution is a far more wide-reaching and
subtler phenomenon...yes, _biological_ evolution does come about due to
"random" mutation (chaotic, actually, but let's not quibble over that :) BUT
_evolution_ itself does not care a tuppenny damn what causes the "mutation"
or what entity is being mutated...
Evolution is an interesting subject because of this...it is not some
tangible entity...there is no place you can point to in an organism and say:
"That's evolution by there"...heck, it's even stretching the definitions
(some might argue incorrectly :) to call it a "process"...it is an example
of a totally intangible entity...you cannot have evolution in isolation; It
is the interaction between entities and it does not actually "exist" in
either entity...it lives in the gaps between things...it lives in the
"ether" :)
Any system with interdependent "subsystems" will experience evolution...all
you need is some form of selection and that's all...this might be brought
about by a shared resource and competition...it might be brought about by an
designer making an _intelligent_ design decision...put it this way, if you
include those design/marketing decisions as part of the software (for
surely, it is :) then one could easily argue that there are "random"
mutations...market pressures are a "random" environmental influence...
For instance, M$ often try to stamp out their competition and give away
freebie software in order to secure data in their proprietry
format...altruism now, selfishness later...basically, responding to the
market whilst maintaining personal interests...if there was no competition
at all then M$ would behave in a totally different manner...thus, market
pressure HAS caused a "random" mutation...for certain, the money market is a
perfect example of a chaotic system :)
Intelligence does NOT avoid evolution, it can, at best, merely guide
it...yes, it is tempting to get all anthropocentric and assume intelligence
is above these things...that it is some sort of "magic" that nature can't
touch...unfortunately, intelligence is just yet another environmental
influence...it is a catalyst for mutation that will correspond to new
environmental pressures...it, in fact, just speeds up evolution, it doesn't
avoid it at all...
It is NOT the same as comparing it to a lottery or dice roll because such
systems are designed to give equal weighting to all eventualities...they are
designed to be "random"...BUT software is built to suit its environment, the
influences of human need and, therefore, does qualify as an evolutionary
process...
I understand your argument but I think you've placed the wrong emphasis...it
is NOT a fair comparison, you're right...and, yes, it is _intelligence_ that
makes the difference...BUT it is NOT correct to say that due to intelligence
being present that evolution will run away or whatever you're implying...it
is still there and this process still undergoes evolution...what _should_ be
stressed is that intelligence has entered into the bargain...intelligence
allows for self-analysis and immediate appraisal of new forms...this speeds
things up immeasurably BUT that can potentially be a severe drawback...it
breeds short-termism...
Intelligence is a great gift...arguably, the greatest gift we have...BUT it
does not grant us godhood...we cannot rise above the fundamentals of
nature...evolution still effects us and everything we do...it's immediacy
can be detrimental, also, where a short-term need is placed ahead of a
long-term need...
You call for this discussion to be dismissed on the grounds of intelligence
being present...I call for it to be greatly extended because of it...it is
evolution BUT it's not the usual biological sort...it has extra and
different influences that effect its evolution...there's a myriad more
possibilities here, which have great ramifications...

I find it strange that you decide to argue on the majority case AND also on

do not come under its constitution...I could also not care a bean about the
rights and freedoms of your workers...but I do...I care for all human

noticed, right? Under that system, you must rationally state your opinion -

others to understand your viewpoint then this would seem to betray that you
merely wish to feel enraged...it is a good feeling, I know...but NOTHING
will happen until you state your case fairly (that means you have to listen
to other people even if you don't want to hear it) and rationally (don't the

The ball is in your court...do you want to see a better world or do you just
want to get yourself some "feel-good" from all that rage and anger? If you
want a better world, you must work for it, my friend...mouthing off will
just alienate you and your opinions...no-one likes to listen to a moaner who
does nothing themselves...
I believe in giving people a second chance...this is your second chance to

Also, out of interest, how do you justify that your advocacy of murder with
