Linux Professional Institute, Inc. CALL FOR TECHNICAL REVIEWERS The Linux Professional Institute, Inc. (www.lpi.org) is now recruiting Item Technical Reviewers to evaluate the accuracy of test questions for our certification exams. Reviewers are needed for the T2 series of exams covering differences between the Linux distributions. Reviewers will work with the institute over the internet spending approximately 2 to 5 hours per week during a 4 week period in November and December. These are volunteer positions. We are building exams covering the distribution-specific aspects of each of these distributions: EXAM DISTRIBUTION T2a Caldera OpenLinux T2b Debian GNU/Linux T2c TurboLinux T2d Red Hat Linux T2e Slackware T2d SuSE Linux QUALIFICATIONS -------------- The minimum qualifications for Item Technical Reviewers are: - Technical expertise in the objectives for at least one of the T2 exams (listed above.) - Ability to commit to working the required number of hours during the technical review phase of exam development. - Native English communication skills or fluency in reading and writing in the English language. - Connectivity to the internet, including access to email and www services. - Ability to do work independently, meet established deadlines, and meet the institute's standards for work quality. Additional desired qualifications are: - Professional Linux system administration experience, or system administration experience with other unix-like operating systems. - Teaching, training, or professional test development experience. DESCRIPTION OF WORK ------------------- Item Technical Reviewers will work as independent volunteers for the institute. Reviewers will be contracted to review items in one or more of the T2 series exams listed above. Additional details about the topics, including the specific exam objectives for each test, are available at: http://www.lpi.org/cgi-bin/poms.py. Test questions will be submitted through an open web interface. After an initial screening by LPI technical staff, questions will be routed to Item Technical Reviewers. Reviewers will critique each item based on these criteria: - Correctness: Ensuring that the keyed correct answer is actually correct. - Appropriateness of Distractors: For multiple choice items, this means evaluating the incorrect answer choices to ensure that they are incorrect yet plausible and attractive. - Phrasing: Ensuring that the question is worded in a way that makes sense. - Relevance to Objective: Ensuring that the question is a fair measure of the exam objective it purports to measure. - Expected Difficulty: Ensuring that the item is neither too hard nor too easy. For each item, reviewers will make a recommendation to either accept or reject the item. Reviewers will follow the institute's instructions and policies for conducting and reporting reviews. BENEFITS OF SERVING AS A REVIEWER -------------------------------- The main benefit you will receive in serving as a technical reviewer is in the knowledge (and satisfaction) that you helped LPI deploy our exams that much quicker and helped provide another tool to aid in the corporate adoption of Linux. You will also have helped demonstrate the ability of open-source projects to compete on par with commercial organizations. All reviewers will be permanently recognized on LPI's web site. In addition, reviewers will receive an award of appreciate from the institute. Reviewers will also have the opportunity to be considered for future contract positions with LPI. Applications will be reviewed by LPI staff, and candidates will be selected for telephone interviews (at LPI's expense.) All Reviewers will sign a contract with LPI agreeing, among other things, that they will not reveal item content to unauthorized persons.
