That's weird. The log shows your device pretty much died as soon as it got the first SCSI command. And yet you say it works okay on your laptop with 2.6.8.1? Can you post a log from the laptop with usb-storage debugging configured on? Maybe some comparison testing would help. What happens if you run 2.6.12.3 on the laptop? What happens if you run 2.6.8.1 on the server? As far as I know, there's no difference between the two versions of the OS that would account for such a change in behavior.
