I think that this is the usual procedure. Take Fedora as an example, the alpha release is done before the feature freeze. The rationale, as far as I can remember, is to invite the users to test and get an idea where the project is coming and how do the new features integrate in the project. So it could be possible that some feature is deemed unready and dropped before feature freeze. On the other hand there is a proposal to drop the alpha release starting from Fedora 27 (to be released in October/November). So that means that Fedora 26 alpha, that was released last Tuesday, is the last alpha release for Fedora. Again following your reasoning since everyone is abandoning the alpha release we should keep it. ;-) -- José Abílio
