I use 3.6 at home and 3.7dev at work (but I've had a problem with 3.7dev <https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/2089>). Regardless, the cleaning I'm describing was put in recently (maybe 3.5?). Regardless, with a recent version you can configure cleaning with the "broom" in the toolbar (near the key for key generation). I don't have it done automatically, but it is a part of my workflow after I enter a new item. Note that in my screenshot within that bug report, it doesn't show the Unicode -> LaTeX cleanup (it was a relatively recent addition to me due to the need to include a French technical report). > > > (Under General, what default encoding should I use?
