Hello!

I've been using xbindkeys[1] for some weeks now to map the "Eject"
button to the "xterm" command, so I can easily press the top right key
on my keyboard and have an open xterm.

However, this functionality stopped working this morning - I guess some
Debian package upgrade might be the problem. I don't receive the
keypresses in X using "xev". Has anybody else experienced this?

Try pressing fn+eject and see if xev puts an event out. If this is the case then the function key policy has been changed to the standard as per we see on a normal pc keyboard.
