My question is if anyone has any better news for linux? Someone from the VLC development team said that this was due to a Quicktime upgrade in OS X suggesting that the OS has to somehow be complicit in this (though from Thomas's explanation and other stuff I've heard I'm not quite sure this requires the OS) giving me some hope that things would be better in Linux.
