Yea.. I'm not too happy about it. Especialy since Apple refuses to even talk
to me unless I give them a credit card #. I didn't get the extended
Protection Plan and even tho I'm still within my one year warranty, they
refuse to help me unless I "purchase" a phone support call. Nice... I use my
one and only allowed phone cal to send the original screwed up laptop in so
now I have to pay 40 bucks before they'll even send me a box to ship this
one back. I don't know how they can get away with providing such shoddy
support. To be fair, my credit card will be credited back the ammount if
it's found to be hardware and not software related, but still.... Just
unbelievable how they treat their customers. One phone call, one year
warranty. Atleast Dell gives you a standard 3 year warranty and unlimited
tech support. You may not be able to understand them but at least they are
trying.
So... To everyone out there. Get the extended warranty... Don't think I'll
be buying anything Apple ever again was the ultimate lesson learned for me.
So yea. What ever I get back is staying in the box and going straight to
Ebay. I've been a loyal user for 7 years now ever since my G3 pismo but I
think I'm done. Ever since they went with Intel, they've been in a downward
spiral IMO...
Your pretty smart by staying in OSX Sheer... I just can't do it. I like
Linux too much.. :-) It's obvious OSX implements all sorts of software to
keep heat down and just make the machine work well in general. Use an OS
that isn't specifically designed to run this hardware and it's a crap shoot.
Horrible power consumption, very high heat, spotty power management features
and crappy GPU support (ati)....
Oh well... Just use your head guys. I compile software all day long with
MAKEOPTS set. That's what this machine is for. A development box. Anywhere
from 2 to 8 hours a day of spiking out both procs. You just can't use it
like that. It'll burn out, I guarantee it... Atleast under Linux it will.
If you buy a cooling stand and just use it for checking email and browsing
the web, then I'm sure nothing would ever happen. Pretty sure anyway... :-)
