Hi, I'm watching the development a bit longer now. It seems that there are already some MBP people testing it: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11281
The git log of the driver is here: http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=avivo/xf86-video-avivo.git;a=summary There you can see the latest patches etc. Haven't tested it myself cause 3D is not yet running.
