Hi,
the backlight is provided by LEDs so it shouldn't suffer much from being
switched continuously.

About the cycling: hard to say anything without logs, but if reflashing
doesn't work (meaning that you cannot even reflash a full image),
chances are that the bootloader got corrupted and probably only
cold-flashing will do.

That's something the service points can do, or you can do it yourself
with one of the unofficial cables that you can find on the net (either
schematics or seller). 

Of course it is very likely to void your warranty, so i strongly advice
to check with customer service about it.
