Hector, I appologise, I missed this email first time round. I suggest we 
move this thread to mapbuilder-devel.

We are doing something similar. We are querying a Catalog and selecting 
layers to insert on a Map.
For all these querying and styling functions I propose we convert all 
the query results into a QueryResults OWSContext document. Then we 
select the layers in the OWSContext QueryResults and copy it to the 
mainMap OWSContext.
The bonus of converting all query results is that we can handle the 
selection/styling/filtering from one set of widgets.

I'm currently working in 
mapbuilder/sandbox/lisasoft/cgdiip/mapbuilder/catalog/
It is still a work in progress, but moving quickly.
