There were a lot more recruits to socialist views during Debs's time, so it was wise to concentrate leftwing advice and organizing at home. While there is still much work to be done here in the US, giving a moribund leftwing movement life and work at home today means using examples from abroad, while simultaneously attempting to help foreign leftwing movements to grow and to stay on a socialist path.
