I consider that wiki entry to be an opinion piece.
The use of namespaces is really irrelevant in this case, as 1) rel is
only allowed on <a> and 2) dates aren't relationships. Adding
namespaces wouldn't solve either of those problems. But on the topic
of namespaces in general, the web already has semantic initiatives
using namespaces, e.g. RDF. Microformats are currently an
alternative. Adding namespaces to microformats would remove that
alternative. Even if you think namespaces are good, removing
alternatives is a bad method of testing theories.
