I thought Mpls-Issues participants (and lurkers) would find the following
announcement of great interest:

The City of Minneapolis will produce its first webcast next week when the
Mayor delivers her 2001 budget address. Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton's address
will be available live on the City's web site at 2 pm Thursday, Nov. 9. If
you can't watch it live, the address will also be archived for later
viewing.

This is the first step in the City's move into streaming media. Later in the
month, City Council meetings will be webcast, and Council committee meetings
will be added early next year.

Webcasting the events will make them more accessible to residents, who will
be able to watch them at whatever time fits their schedule.

The events will be available on the City's site at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us.
Windows Media Player will be required. The City is working with the
Minneapolis firm implex.net to stream the events to the Internet.

A text of the speech will also be available on the City's web site by later
Thursday afternoon, November 9.
