I've been following the online debate on NRP disclosure and while I'm
not familiar with all of the issues germane to the Ventura Village
controversy, I think it's imperative for the future survival of the NRP
that all volunteers, paid staff, and self-appointed chieftains lead by
example and commit themselves to full disclosure in all administrative,
financial, and political activities. The good citizens of Minneapolis
and Minnesota deserve nothing less. After all, it's the citizenry's
hard-earned tax dollars that feed the NRP agenda. Sadly, some of these
not-for-profit groups have come to believe they can operate as
independent fiefdoms, making monetary decisions without regard to their
fiduciary responsibilities or the actual priorities of the neighborhood.
I've seen it again and again. Large egos, no vision, and a painfully
obvious political naïveté. Remember, there's no shortage of politicos
ready to preside over the NRP's funeral. Abuse of privilege inevitably
invites reaction.
