PROGRAM SCHEDULE for June 21-25, 1999

MON - 6/21: World Peace & Prayer Day:
The summer solstice is escorting in a host of activities and ceremonies
around the planet. A very special event will be held at the University of
Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica. It will be led by Lakota spiritual leader
Chief Arvol Looking Horse, who is carrying out his forefather's vision of
mending the sacred hoop. Spread the message and help us celebrate World
Peace and Prayer Day.

TUE - 6/22: The Honor of Native Men:
Native men have been getting kicked around and blamed for a long time for
many of the problems in our tribes, families and communities. And certainly,
males have to accept responsibility for their lack of leadership. But, is
the disrespect of Native men being eternalized by Native men and then acted
out? When will the honor return? Guests include Northern Cheyenne educator
Clayton Small.

WED - 6/23: Sheep Is Life:
Back in the Dust Bowl years, the government ordered the Navajo to reduce
their herds of sheep to cut back on what was considered overgrazing. When
the Navajo refused, the government engaged in a mass slaughter, nearly
wiping out the herds. But one Navajo family began a campaign to save the
Churro sheep, and a way of life. How are Native traditions intertwined with
these animals and the land? Invited Guests include Sharon Begay, teacher of
Navajo language and culture.

THU - 6/24: Music Maker: Native Roots:
What do you get when you cross Reggae and Caribbean music with Native blues?
Well, you get Native Roots. They are an Albuquerque group sending fresh
musical waves across the landscape. They will join us live in Studio 49 as
our Music Maker of the Month. Tune in and hear their unique blend of musical
inspirations.

FRI - 6/25: Dial-A-Doc:
Our two doctors in radio-residency return to answer listeners' health and
prescription questions. Doctors David Baines and Tom Nighswander will also
discuss with host Sharon McConnell of the latest medical developments
featured in the national media. So prepare your health questions for another
"radio house call" on the next "Wellness Edition" of Native America Calling
