well,

  directory=a, b, c

should be

  directory={a, b, c}

or when b, c is a path

  directory={a, {b, c}}

you can try

    if h[iv["global"]] then
        for _, s in ipairs(aux.settings_to_array(pathlist)) do
            if not table.contains(t,s) then
                t[#t+1] = s
            end
        end
    end

(untested)
