Hi Andrew: If you don't mind, I am going to print a screenshot of your email in the QCBC newsletter as an update about the West Pond. Thank you. That is the text message I received while I was at the north end of the East Pond with a small group who stayed with me. While there is no timeline or details associated with her announcement, it has to be seen as a positive development that we at least have on RECORD, someone from National Park Service committing to closing the breach. l want to also add that I am grateful that Lloyd, Don and Kevin continue to organize this event which is so much needed at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. I hope they continue to do so for many years to come. If you missed the event yesterday, think about attending next year. The usage of places like the refuge for wildlife observation is very key to how decisions are made in maintaining and enhancing existing wildlife habitats. Cheers,

I want to thank Tom Burke, Gail Benson, Doug Gochfeld and Andrew Baksh for their invaluable help as field leaders. They were really great.Although the quantity of birds wasn't there we did have many Stilt Sandpipers and Western Sandpipers up very close. There were a couple of Black Terns and one Gull-billed Tern. Of course there were Semipalmated Sandpipers and Plovers along with White-rumped Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher and both Yellowlegs. Earlier in the morning Andrew (Birding Dude) Baksh saw a Baird's which we couldn't relocate. We finished the day with a presentation given by Kevin Karlson. He gave a very entertaining and informative look at his new book "Birding by Impression" part of the Peterson series.I want to publicly than the hard working people of Gateway National Recreation Area especially Jen Nersesian. Also NYC Audubon and the American Littoral Society for sponsoring the event. -- All the best, Lloyd Lloyd Spitalnik Photography www.lloydspitalnikphotos.com-- NYSbirds-L List Info: Welcome and Basics
