April 11, 2022

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     Seven species of Shorebirds were noted at the complex this week

     4/24: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was spotten in the Deep Muck and 
Mitigation area in the northern complex.







Cayuga County

------------




     4/25: A newly arrived BALTIMORE ORIOLE was seen at Fair Haven State Park.







Derby Hill Bird Observatory

------------




     On 4/24 20,473 raptors passed over Derby, avast majority (19,334) of which 
were BROAD-WINGED HAWKS. UP to that point only 1,374 Hawks had been counted. To 
make it even better on of the last Hawks counted was a rare for Derby 
SWAINSON’S HAWK.Other highlights were 5 GOLDEN EAGLES, a BLACK VULTURE and a 
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.







Oswego County

     4/20: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen from Camic Road in Brewerton on Oneida 
Lake.

     4/22: An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen on Dry Bridge Road in Central Square.   

     4/23: A PINE SISKIN was seen on Rt.104 east of Mexico.Onondaga County.







Onondaga County

     4/19: A FORSTER’S TERN was seen at the Honeywell Visitor’s Center on the 
west shore of Onondaga Lake.

     4/23: A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen at the Gerber Topsoil area in 
Kirkville.

     4/24: A RED CROSSBILL was seen in the Morgan Hill State Forest. A 
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen at Van Buren Park in Baldwinsville.







Madison County

     4/20: A PINE SISKIN was seen on the Colgate University Campus in Hamilton.




Oneida County

------------







     4/24: RED SHOULDERED HAWKS were seen at the Great Swamp Conserve north of 
Canastota and in Verona Beach Woods.







Herkimer County

------------




     4/23: A RED CROSSBILL was see on Rt. 8 north of Cold Brook.

     4/24: A PINE SISKIN was seen in Dolgeville.
