Yes it was the 13 Th.. of August!
However. I was born on the 13 Th. of March so full steam ahead even though as I headed
for Billings Bridge at 5:30 PM all I could see was lightning to the North and it was
raining by the time I arrived, yet the sun was still shining.

Mike was already there and so was a non member Yulco.

As it turned out 8 riders took a chance on the weather to ride a 45 Km route which
turned out to be a real fun ride.

We decided to leave all together with Pat leading and James following up at the rear.
In this way as we found our speed Pat ended up with three and James brought up the
rear with five.although both groups crossed paths many times during the tour as the
speed of each group was almost the same.

After a request by James to ride at a slower pace and spread out a little on the bike
path. We were off heading for Preston St., and the Chaudiere Bridge to ride the Alymer
bike path to it's end at Ch. Lattion and then we returned by Ch. Eardley and Ch.
D'Aylmer to cross over the "{New") improved Champlain Bridge. and through the Central
Experimental Farm before returning to Billings Bridge.

We were lucky and only had light showers of short duration. However, the threat of bad
weather made it a ideal time to do the bike path as we had it almost all to ourselves.
and nothing is nicer than riding in the woods after a rain when everything seems so
bright and clean.

Yulco had problems with a rear fender after losing the bolt that held the fender stay
to the frame lug, other than having the fender rub the wheel there was a threat of the
stay tangling with the spokes of the wheel.
Mike R. came to the rescue by removing a bolt from the seat tube bottle mount that did
not contain a bottle cage and used this bolt (same size thread) to mount the fender
stay with a little help from "Sir" James's tools.

Yes the "New:" Champlain bridge was a dream to ride from North to South and we found
the space for bikes very wide, the expansion joints were bumpy in spots but I think
it's just because they have not put the filler strips in yet, sure beats the expansion
joints on the bridge in Cornwall to the USA. I did notice one cyclist riding South to
Ottawa on the sidewalk. I guess old habits die hard but I for one have only praise for
the bridge and any minor problems I'm sure will be fixed in time. hopefully, without
me having to delete a 1,000 e-mail on the subject.

Cheers :-) "Sir" James
