You've obviously never tried to extract datasheets from Broadcom, then. :-) Last time we did it, we had to sign NDAs out the wazoo, wait a month, and then they only sent a binder full of hardcopy (because apparently no one knows how to work a copy machine now). I'm frankly amazed that they got even the smattering of documentation they did (on peripherals like the UARTs, etc.).
