Hi List, _a big THANKS to coppice_ who, during the weekend, made a lot of improvements with T.38.
At the moment, I can send and receive with 99% success faxes with txfax and rxfax, connecting openpbx with my ATA T38 enabled by UTstarcomm. (sample attached) It works because the ATA sends a reinvite with T38 headers both when receiving and sending a fax, so openpbx can switch to udptl. But there is still a problem. Openpbx in chan_sip.c actually uses dsp to try to detect fax tones and send a reinvite. It simply does not work. It detects nothing even if it should do it. This is particularly an issue when talking to CISCO gateways which (Seldom) send a t38 reinvite on their own. I have tried a sip call both to an ATA through a cisco GW and a call to a fax2email extension connected to that ATA. T38 reinvite is never sent. This is the biggest problem I have seen in all the tests I have done. Anyway, we are really closer have T38 faxing. Another couple of things: - openpbx (to me) needs some "marketing to become famous. An alpha version and a freshmeat announce would do the job. - T38 is a great feature. No opensource PBX (afaik) has t38 support and it is really needed. A lot of people would switch to openpbx as soon as it works. - I am working on a web interface supporting only SIP and IAX2 channels. Hope to give some demos as soon as it works! Max
