I have found httrack to be extremely effective at converting websites into static pages, as it will follow parameterised links e.g. example.com?page=567 and convert to sensible simple file names.
I agree that taking a snapshot of the site to preserve it would be a welcome act as there is a lot of useful information for anyone playing with a variety of single-board arm-based micros.
