I have a pl2303-based converter that I use to connect to devices' serial
consoles. I didn't know that they lack serial numbers, or at least I
haven't checked the converter that I have. But it's not a problem since
I use this with a laptop and not on a server that needs to find the
serial device always at the same place. Good information to know if I
ever need to leave the pl2303-based converter connected permanently, though.

I am using your udev trick to find my 1-Wire masters (2 of them) and an
INSTEON PLM always at the same place.

Cheers!
