Yeah, FIMs are on auto. Definitely a bigger issue, but hopefully one a CU will fix. I have had issues where the service was trying to recreate certificates. In sp 2013 I used the same method to find issues eventually traced back to sccm. Trying to sync and viewing the logs should give you some answers.
