Hi Tom,

If the player is actually on, but the play button hasn't been pressed, there may be a problem with the unit if it doesn't shut off after 30 minutes when it is on battery power.

I really have to watch it though, because since the book starts if a cartridge is in and the on button is pressed, If I think I am turning the unit off when it is actually already off, I may be turning it on and starting a book that may go on for hours. I may do this if I take my ear phones out before pressing buttons and don't hear what the player is doing.

Jerry and list: Yes..but what about the feature that is supposed to enable the player to shut down if the player is turned on..but not actually in use?
