If you use technology then one rule certainly applies, "Use and keep updated or stagnate and fall behind", so I'm beginning to see with trusted technology I've been using here for audio and video streaming.

Trusted it may very well truly be however various pieces of equipment such as the B&W A7 are being left behind.

For example, I have Apps I can use on my Samsung Galaxy S6 to stream audio via AirPlay but there's very little point even considering those now given the various other streaming methods and protocols which are built right into the phone or other devices.

So what way to turn? Now we have access to AptX decoding with Bluetooth we now have a lossless way to play our music from our Phone to a multitude of speakers, devices which can be connected to other Hi-Fi gear and so on.

If Bluetooth is out of the question because of distance then we can use the Play-Fi App across platforms with compatible Play-Fi speakers, streamers and so on.

What this all means is that I'm having to consider replacing my A7 given I'm not really a user of AirPlay any logner and the B&W A7 doesn't support any other streaming protocols and - unfortunately - there are very few speakers that come close to sounding as the B&W A7 does, its outstanding.

I started doing more research into possible speaker replacements and came across the excellent Sony SRSX99B speaker system which - according to all the review material I've read thus far - sounds very similar to the B&W A7 and comes with more streaming options.

The Sony speaker is compatible with Chromecast, DLNA and Airplay but to name a few.

If this doesn't wet your appetite then how about a USB socket which will play any audio format you can think of including hD audio files and a wapping 160 watts RMS split over 7 drivers - 1 sub-woofer, 2 mid-range and 4 tweeters - two on the front and two on the top -.

The unit comes with a remote control but can be controlled via the "Songpal" App which is extremely accessible.

I plan to listen to the SRSX99B in the coming days so I just need to prepare a USB with all my speaker testing faves.
