There might be cheaper alternatives to a full Wimberley rig. There are some photgraphers who uses the Manfrotto 393 for the Sigmonster. Thats even bigger than the FA*, and the focal length is 300mm longer. Miles Hecker seems to be one of them http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/sigma-300-800.shtml That does not prove anything, but it could be worth a try.
I'm using it with my tiny 500/4,5 I have no reason to believe the Poor mans Wimberley is the weak link. On the contrary, I have every reason to that's the photographer ;-) BTW. If you grow tired of this new toy I could maybe help you out ;-) Tim Typo Mostly harmless (just plain Norwegian) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christian Sent: 24. mars 2007 14:05 To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Re: Mega-Enablement: FA*250-600/5.6 Jay Taylor wrote: > Well, I finally have been able to secure a nice long Pentax telephoto > lens. Based on the size of the tripod foot, you're going to have to go with a full Wimberley head. Mounted sideways on the sidekick, the lens will be too far over the opposite side of the tripod and not centered over the ball head. Also I think the weight of 5400g is too much for a sidekick. I just found out how expensive these long lenses are... The lens itself is pricey, but then you need some pretty expensive accessories (gimbal mounts, etc) if you don't already have them! -- Christian http://photography.skofteland.net -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
