Perfect timing, we've just replaced the railings on my apartment building, at a cost of A$120,000 for 14 units, seven floor building. Most of the cost was the builders having to erect a swing stage to get to the various levels, plus, for the second time, rectifying concrete cancer where found - very little, fortunately. We went for powder-coated aluminium, as the previous painted steel had to be repainted several times over their 35-year life, and the rust emanating from their fixings was what caused the cancer!

A home-owner (condo owner) might find it feasible when they have to replace the railings the first time they corrode into nothingness, but it's probably just an unnecessary extra cost from a commercial developer's point of view. By the time those railings have to be replaced, the developer will have gotten his money and been long gone. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for.
