Doug -
It is the placement of the machine on the bus that allows for contactless payment of bus fare that is the problem.. and it is likely to have swiped $2.75 from more people who wear their cards on a lanyard or have them in a pocket or purse that is at the same level as the fare taker on the bus. It doesn't affect people paying full fares that want to use any credit card to pay and so swish on purpose..  although there have been cases reported of someone being charged twice.. for those of us who have discounted metro cards the contactless payment on public transportation is not an option.. we still have to dip or swipe our senior or disabled citizen cards .  by 2025, we are told, all  busses and train stations will be equipped with OMNI machines and using them will be the only option.. by then they are supposed to have figured out how to recognize that one is supposed to get a discount. BTW - the OMNI reads your phone if your phone has the correct stuff in it, or your apple watch, etc.

anyway, I"m getting an new little purse

Coming to this pretty late, but companies have to have authorization to charge your account, otherwise this OMNI reader thing can just suck money out of every touchless card that wanders by. I can't imagine that's legal.

Perhaps telling your bank/credit card company that OMNI is not authorized to charge you would be a better path.
