One more suggestion: CCTV 9, China's English language television service, is
probably available as an option on cable television in your area. It's a great
way to learn more about this country.

Hi there, Thanks for your interest. Sorry if I disappoint you but my primary
motive in joining this list was to contact Michael Leibowitz, whom I couldn't
locate by other means, in order to share information about China with him which
might be relevant to the socialist movement in Venezuela which he is involved
with. He happened to reply to me via the list, so I thought I'd share my
initial replies with him the same way. However, I'm afraid I'm very busy with
my work here in China, and would have limited energy for exchanges, polemics,
and so forth.
My best suggestions for those interested in learning more are:
1. Visit China, or better, live here for some time.
2. Try to learn about the scientific concept of development and the other
matters I raised in the email.
3. Read - not once or twice but consistently over time - the English language
