I found the perl testing developers notebook useful. Once. Because it
had better docs in it for a particular module than the module itself
did.

Mostly it's "hmm, I wonder how I test this", and I ask people. You
forgot "are there any good mailing lists" :-) The three mailing lists
that I've found most useful for improving my testing are this one,
cpan-testers-discuss, and london.pm.
