Dear Steve: I've never tried to attach the I-A mechanism my Opera.
To adjust height of raised Diamond A, "M'" or "L" reproducers on an Opera or Amberolas I-A, I-B or III I've sometimes found it necessary to tweak both the lift supporting the reproducer loop attached to the floating weight & the lift lever attached to the stanchion on which it rests. Take care with bending. All good wishes... The lever on the stanchion can be tweaked to rest closer to the lever on the reproducer. Sometimes tweaking is required to get any of those reproducers to lift far enough.
