I can tell you that AQ Kapauan, whom I consider one of the pioneers of the
Ateneo computing community, did program the Altair, using the switches.
Incidentally, there weren't only eight switches -- there were eight *toggle*
switches, to set the bit values. There were at least three other switches -- the
power switch, a "deposit" switch, and a "run" switch. Hmm, might've been an
"address" switch as well, where you set the address (in binary, of course), and
then you press address to set that address as the current one.
