I have not posted for some time on this list because am in
Singapore, and I don't always find time and Sing dollars
for the Internet Cafe, so I have not kept current on the postings
here.
But I got a copy of Linus Torvalds's "Just for Fun: The Story of an
Accidental Revolutionary", (a Harper Collins book, 2001), and on
page 87, Linus states:
===START QUOTE===
".. the operating system I posted to the ftp site (ftp.funet.fi)
was numbered version 0.01. That tells everybody it's not ready
for much.
And yes, I remember the date: September 17, 1991."
===END QUOTE===
I do not know what effect this will have on the 10th anniversary
celebration in August at the UAP, but if we proceed, we will be
celebrating on a wrong anniversary date.
By the way, the book is very very very interesting reading. Linus
talks about his view of software and of life in general, aside from
giving us a glimpse of his life story. I recommend this book
to all Linux fans -- like all of us. Only Sing $43.16 from
Kinokuniya at Takashimaya on Orchard Road.
