*sigh* this is so true. i learned the systems/network admin ropes with
linux...and in my first foray into the industry, i was so rabid a linux
advocate that i was willing to put every service on a linux box.

well, it wasnt to be...as sometimes, development time and costs could
actually come cheaper with microsoft solutions. sometimes, technical
demands just cant be met by linux--try 60,000 network connections on a
single box, Oracle database calls, multi-threaded applications, etc.
(and no, this wasn't met with a MS solution but with a Sun Microsystems
one).

really, different solutions for different problems...and situations. now
about linux vs freebsd...all i can say is, i certainly choose either one
hands down than that thing from Redmond. =)

ps.

has anyone played with Darwin? i managed to install one at home but i
cant use much of it. it only supports 1 or 2 motherboard chipsets, one
network card, and VESA 2-standard vid cards.
