About a year ago NPR changed over from RealAudio to Flash and I went through the same hoops and looked at the RTMP/RTMPT/RTMPS protocols. Looking at the BBC protocol exchanges I got the feeling it wasn't quite the same.
Anyway nothing can be done at the moment - I can hook in an existing player but I won't be writing one. Regarding AAC+ - again why waste more energy speculating. If it is plain AAC+ there is already a SC solution. If is "secure" in some way - there is no ready solution.
