Well, my linux experience so far has had me never needing to touch /proc/acpi/wakeup...except when I was trying to get WOL working with Via boards with the Rhine nic/driver. If I remember correctly, I went round and round with these sorts of settings and never did get it to work consistently. Since this issue is hardware & linux specific, this discussion could conceivably retire to the linux or 3rd party hardware forum.
The OP is right, though.
