I've made further tests with the "trace" option set to 127 (ie: all kind of trace/debug info). I don't see any error message when webcam freezes. I'm currently trying to set other parameter to better understand where the problem could come from... I've got "ehci_hcd" and "ohci_hcd" listed by /sbin/lsmod but I see that the webcam uses the "ohci_hcd" I'll follow your recommandation and borrow an USB switch to perform the test. What type of USB driver are you running on your laptop? OHCI, EHCI, UHCI? I've had similar issues with OHCI controllers in the past. Often times this kind of error can be fixed by picking up a cheap USB hub (can get them for <$10 now at Walmart or online). I know it solved some similar problems I was having.
