Hi,

Maplins have got some offers going, on these small netbooks.

One of which is as low as £129.99.

PS - Tony, this short reply is when it is better to top-post ... :-)

Hi Dilwyn,

Get a ASUS eeePC, they are tha same price and better battery life.

I've just had a chance to use this ultra-cheap 10 inch screen netbook
from Zoostorm and I loved it!

In the UK, it's on offer for just £199 from Argos (part number
508-3053) and seems to work just fine with QPC2 (albeit I've only used
it for a day or so).

While 10 inch screen netbooks like this can be bought cheaper, this
one comes with Windows 7 starter (very, very basic Windows 7, but
adequate for what I wanted), and a decent 250GB hard disk, the first
I've seen at this price.

Indeed it *is* a pity about the battery life. Maybe with an SSD drive
the life owuld be longer.
The screens tough are power hungry.
Nothing will persuade me not to use my Apple Macbook Pro with 7 hours
plus, other than 12 hour life small netbook.
The macbook does it partly by using LEDs for the screen rather than
110vAC strip lights.
Maybe the Ipad when it becomes a *real* computer will do that, with
Qemulator.

You (or Ann maybe) will kick yourself.
It is now £179.99 (8-)#

Dunno Tony...I'm not (and unlikely to be unless work takes me that way) a Mac or Linux user of any kind. Neither is Ann. No desire for an Ipod, Ipad, Iphone or anything much like that. Seen my son and his friends pose enough with his Ipod Touch and their iPhones :o))

Ipad with QemuLator for example might be attractive for some of us, personally I don't fancy wrist strain holding it with one hand while trying to type with the other ;-)

Actually, speaking seriously for a moment, that might conceivably be the way the mobile QL scene goes at some point - the likes of me goes off in this kind of QPC/Windoze direction, while the others go for the Ipad/Mac/QemuLator type of route. Wonder if Daniele has any news for us on how development of QemuLator is going?

BTW Argos always seems to have the same prices online as in store.
However PC World very often have specially low online prices which are
apply (but not advertised) if you reserve online for store pickup.

Tony
Fair enough - I didn't check - if anyone can find the Zoostorm cheaper, so much the better (and let us know here in case anyone else fancies one!).

We have a big Argos and PC World around here, and I was happy paying £200 for this locally, where I can throw it back at them if it doesn't work.

Actually, had I known what Argos PC tech support was like and that all support was supposed to be via Argos, that might have been enough persuade me not to buy it from them. But I didn't (I do now sadly).

Anybody want an EeePC????
