Hi Geoff,

This discussion is becoming an absolute farce.
:-)

!: I changed the subject for a good reason. No one has taken any notice.
No I definitely noticed. It screwed up my threading layout in Thunderbird because the thread for this topic is (still) embedded in the original one about "Undue modesty".

2: I am told there are no PDF files on my site. Strange, because, with
one exception, all the files on the help and advice page are PDF.
Well, I noticed, I even commented on it just this morning.

<SNIP>

PDF files appear in a frame. There is a good reason for this.
I agree. and it works well. Unless, like me, you have Firefox configured to open them in an external viewer. Which I do. All my documents open externally to Firefox as I (used to) have problems opening some in a new tab within Firefox. It's probably fixed now, but I've got used to it.

Web links take you to another site. Because you are going to another
site, there are genuine grounds for criticism for the way I have done
this and I am quite happy to make a change.
I keep all my links configured to open in another window, if they are not on my own site. That's my preference, it's up to the site owner to decide. As Keith pointed out there is plenty code around to force a web site, that is embedded in another, to refresh itself as the top-most window.

> In fact the two YouTube
clips do not open in a frame because YouTube does not permit this.
Yes, strange as I use other sites which do embed YouTube videos that do open on the site as opposed to linking over to YouTube itself. A tad inconsistent at YouTube methinks!

I suspect that Ralf made a "slip of the tongue" in his original email
I originally thought that as well. Then I cosidered that he had maybe opened a pdf on your help pages as opposed to a web site link.

and that he meant to say web links. Easily done. But can the rest of us
please be careful in our terminology,
I try! I usually fail! And yet, I'm always pulling people up for calling an Oracle Database, an Oracle Instance - they are not the same!

:-)

Cheers,
Norm.
