Hi All,

(Yes, still here, and always keeping an eye on things)

Bill's passing is very sad news indeed. A real gentleman. I always enjoyed
our Chats, and he was a dear friend for many years.

He even came over and stayed with me when researching a book he was writing
on old Hibernia.... Its a long story! Not to mention that really wonderful
QL Show we had, which was mainly held in the many pubs and restaurants of
Wicklow!!

Plus he managed to coax me into writing a volume or two of the Z88 Users
Magazine, a very persuasive businessman.

I am glad myself and Steve Reyal managed to get him to agree to being
interviewed for the QL 2002 DVD - I remember saying to Steve it was good to
get his story on tape as at 84 he wasnt getting any younger, yet he made it
for over a decade more. Amazing man.

Tony - yes, we interviewed you too, its here, in 2 parts:

I really must put some of the DVD's together again. There were a few great
bits of video on there.

I wanted to try and Get Jochen and Roy too, but these were the days when
they were quite busy :)

Tony - if you are attending the funeral, and I'm sure you are, please pass
on my condolences.

Darren.

He has just died well into his 90s.

Very bad news, how sad! My deepest condolences.

I've met Bill a couple of times at QL-Shows and will keep him in good
memories.

Here's a picture of him attending the QUANTA workshop in London in
November
2002:

There's a video of him on the QL2002 DVD where he's telling his Sinclair
story. The video is also on YouTube and can be watched here:

I hadn't seen that before - very interesting.
He was 84 in mid 2002, so he was about 94/95 when he died.
I too was videoed on that occasion.

The 5000 membranes he mentioned were the ones he and I shared.
They were though still only made of the original plastic, which became
brittle.
The ones Rich had made I believe are made of superior clear plastic.
This type was fitted to early QLs, but was soon superseded, I suspect to
save a few pennies.

Interested that fire in the Z88 factory. I am *sure* the stock was worth
only the few thousand Bill mentioned, so it has one wondering!

This is indeed sad news indeed (although not unexpected) - Bill was a real gent and always a pleasure to speak with - even though in latter years, he always used to ring my mum's phone number instead of mine, she always enjoyed speaking with him and regularly asked after him.

Of course I had various dealings with Bill over the years, taking over the last few bits of stock from him - I still remember him spending weeks looking for microdrive cables which Tony had had made for him, but he couldn't find!
