Always the best strategy to deal with these availability problems is to 
download the contrib in a separate step, and then use it locally as a 
library, with just the path to its manifest instead of the "contrib://" 
pseudo-scheme. This also obliviates the version check of the generator 
with every run, which caused problems for people too. You just need to 
check the contrib's version manually from time to time (Maybe not a bad 
idea when you want to control your upgrading).

One way of downloading a contrib is again the ViewVC interface of 
SourceForge, which offers a "Download GNU tarball" link on every page 
(e.g. see [1]). You can easily navigate the whole qooxdoo-contrib 
repository, and fetch the contribs you want. Of course, given the 
availability of ViewVC and its tarball service ;).
