Man U chief makes pitch for immortality Telegraph City diary Edited by Simon Goodley 14/11/2003
Sir Roy Gardner, chairman of Manchester United and chief executive of Centrica, is already making preparations for a takeover of the Premiership champions. Sources at United tell me he asked a senior director if the club rules allow him to secure his seat in the directors' box for life - or even beyond. Sir Matt Busby (d. 1994) still has his, so what was the answer? Apparently, the director dodged the question. A spokesman denies that Gardner ever asked, and blows the full-time whistle. Footnote: former chairmen Martin Edwards and Sir Roland Smith both have lifetime seats. ------------------------ Yahoo!
