Hi all, some time ago I reported that recording a segment on a "synthesizer plugin" track led to delayed, stumbling notes: Not the played notes of the already existing segment but the echoed notes I was playing on my keyboard. Let's call it the "echoed notes' delay". I could get along with it by trying to ignore it while playing.
But today I noticed kind of the opposite thing: the notes I was playing were echoed perfectly in time but the recorded notes were delayed by about 1/32 when I played them later. In the editor I could see and repair it. Let's call it the "recorded notes' delay". Anyway, it seemed we have a kind of lock when recording midi events and play them or others with a synthesizer plugin. After an hour removing tracks, synthesizer plugins and LADSPA-plugins I thought "DAFUQ?!??!" It was the "autotalent" LADSPA-plugin in an audio(!)-track, that's some kind of autotune-plugin, with more latency than most other plugins. I tried to move it to another track, same delay. Removing the plugin cured the problem. This reminded me of an experience I made with the graphical multiband EQ: Using it in 4 subgroups led to a different(!) latency of each subgroup. I tested it with 4 drum tracks, each routed to another subgroup. The latency seemed to get greater for each subgroup. The graphical EQ has more latency than the parametric single band. So this effect was audible. So we might have a critical path that's affected by every loaded plugin. As if there was a programming error that would process the output by every available plugin but throw the results of most of them (belonging to other tracks) away. However, a delayed playback would lead to delayed recordings. So this might be an explanation. Sounds weird, I know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
