Good thought, but I already tried that idea. 1) Even with this recurring rhythmic pattern, every one of numerous sources is in complete agreement that the piece is in 3/4. 2) Changing it to 6/8 anyway doesn't work, because the notes have all the right properties and durations to be triplets in 3/4, but lack grouping. Putting it in a different time signature just makes a different mess of things. Having these triplets that aren't triplets is apparently a problem with the quantizer, and it's a problem that was planned for with the make tuplet function, which can be used to correct this situation. It's just a horribly tedious pain in the ass to do again and again, as the function only works on n notes at a time, no matter how large the selection is. Note for the record that addressing these particular problems isn't what Tom is trying to accomplish. He's working on inserting/editing tuplets, not importing tuplets from MIDI. I was just trying to see if I could use the new stuff to get around these other problems, and I sort of can, 2/3 of the time. What the new bar rewriter thing is doing is very interesting, to say the least! It's particularly notable how much better a job it's doing of representing polyphonic rhythms with a nasty sea of ties (which is all we can do with polyphonic rhythms, and the correct objective to pursue.) My day driver sat at home today with no work! Slow season at last! I may get some time to play yet. If I do, I want to try working on everything that has nothing to do with tuplets, and see how it behaves better or worse with this new stuff under the hood. It's all extremely promising to say the least, but like everything else, a mixed bag starting off. -- D.
