Thanks Ambujam Mahodaya for your response.

I know it is not from Gita, but looking at the shloka, I think that it is more
likely from Puranas instead of Vedas but I am not sure.
It would be great if you could find the reference for me.

Thanks

Mukesh

I would typically expect to see some swaras if the mantra is from any of the
Vedas. The sandhya vandanam reference book that was passed on to me from elders
especially referred to these shlokas (there are couple of others along with
this that are recited together) as of ?unknown origin?.

that sutra but also the other ones, which are based on that Panini sutra..."

Please check out this video of Adi Sankara?slife ? the sloka is recited
frequently.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6524043112627932444#

It is just ?ka??t patitam toyam s?garam pratigacchati and it seems to refer to
dying and the ?tman merging with Brahman.

The rest must have been added later.

This verse is supposed to be part of a conversation between Aryambha and
Sankara(Kalady Adi Sankarabhagavathpada). I am not sure as to the exact
document that contains this document. However, I have heard this as a legend
from my mother(my guru) in early days of brahmacharya.
I shall try to search documents as well.

Shankara.
