Please unblock ktorrent2.2, please consider ktorrent

2008-11-13 Thread Modestas Vainius
Hello,

1) Upstream released a new upstream version of ktorrent2.2 _solely_ for the
purpose of fixing 2 security problems (#504178). It is in sid (2.2.8). Please
unblock it.

2) A clone of those security bugs (#503817) is still open for ktorrent/lenny.
A new upstream release (which upstream considers bugfix one, _no new
features_) of ktorrent in sid has at least 4-5 crash fixes, a fix for 100% CPU
bug (#502071), 2 security fixes (#503817), a memory leak fix, a fix for
torrent/HTTP protocol violation. In three months that 3.1.2, 3.1.3 and 3.1.4
have spent in unstable no new bugs have been reported against them in Debian
which wouldn't affect 3.1.1 either (i.e. there are no known regressions).
Personally, I would be very disappointed as a maintainer and as a user if
Lenny was released with 3.1.1. But whether you're going to trust me on this
one and even if you don't how much potential harm a bugfix update of a
completely standalone application could do are up to you to decide. Upstream
Changelog below:

--
Changes in 3.1.4 :
- Make sure user is properly logged in when handling a torrent post in the
webgui
- Prevent PHP injection attacks in webgui
- Update file size in CacheFile::growFile, this fixes a SIGBUS error (172814)
- Fix bug causing infinite DNS lookups in UDP tracker when lookup fails
- Remove default label text KSqueezedTextLabel in trackerview (173065)

Changes in 3.1.3 :
- Make login into webinterface secure
- Check if menus are created properly before showing them
- Stop KT from exiting when scanfolder loads a plugin silently and KT is
hidden in systray.
- Make sure duplicate URL's are not shown in trackerview
- Fix problem causing file priorities not to be read at startup
- Make sure added.f is filled in with the proper flags for each peer in the
added field of a PEX message (169014)
- Make sure it is not required to put http:// for the proxy in the config
dialog (169133)
- Fix typo in advanced pref
- Fix bug causing webseed not to download last chunk of a request
- Fix bug which resulted in speeds of webseed not getting calculated
- Fix rename of groups when edit is not initialized via context menu
- Make toolbars hideable
- Make sure that files can not be moved to the location they are already in
- Don't start torrents at startup when a torrent is user controlled and over
limit
- Fix crash in logging code due to 0 pointer
- Remove bitoogle from default search engine list

Changes in 3.1.2 :
- Improved performance of GUI updates
- Make sure app icon is set (mostly for windows)
- Fix crash when clicking on clear search history button twice (167580)
- Backported some improvements to download thread
- Make sure cookies are not sent in http announces
- Fix crash at startup which started happening since KDE 4.1
- Fix problem causing massive memory usage (148385)
- Fix issue causing Timer class to stop working when day changes
- Make sure toolbar settings are restored properly
- Fix compile error on arm architecture
- Fixed some bugs in file deselection code

 Well, the postinstall script calls update-inetd, that is what the

If the package can only work via inetd, and not eg. as a standalone

 cl-geodesics is a very specific package, not updated since 2001 and with
 a very small userbase (20 installation according to popcon [5]).
 Nevertheless, since the package is working and was present in etch, I

Re: FPC-2.2.0 should be removed from Lenny and replaced by FPC-2.2.2

2008-11-13 Thread Adeodato Simó
* Mazen NEIFER [Tue, 28 Oct 2008 23:17:20 +0100]:

 Hi,

Sorry, I'm afraid it is too late in the release cycle to update a
package with such big changes. You will be able to provide fpc-2.2.0 in
backports.org so that users can use it to write non-GPL code.

Thanks,

 Debian packages for FPC-2.2.0 have a copyright issue which makes it
 complicated to use this version for a non GPL project. Indeed, 23
 routines in the Run-Time library were identified by FPC developers as
 being possible copyright infringements: the sources were contributed by
 non core developers and were possibly copied from Borland copyrighted
 code.

 To remove any suspicion, they have been re-implemented using a
 clean-room approach, and this re-implementation was included in release
 2.2.2.

 Please note that the infringed code was released under Kylix LGPL, so
 there is not necessarily a problem for Debian users using FPC to write
 GPL programs. The problem is mainly for people needing FPC's COPYING.FPC
 exception allowing linking statically to FPC RTL without being forced to
 share their code source, ie using FPC to write non GPL programs.

 The original of the suspicious code was published by Borland as GPL
 code, it is available on Source Forge:
 http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=22417
 It is dual-licensed with a Borland and GPL license:
 (sample from the Classes.pas file included in the archive)

 { ***
 }
 {}
 { Kylix and Delphi Cross-Platform Visual Component Library}
 {}
 { Copyright (c) 1995, 2001 Borland Software Corporation}
 {}
 { This file may be distributed and/or modified under the terms of the GNU}
 { General Public License (GPL) version 2 as published by the Free Software }
 { Software Foundation and appearing at http://www.borland.com/kylix/gpl.html.
 }
 {}
 { Licensees holding a valid Borland No-Nonsense License for this Software may
 }
 { use this file in accordance with such license, which appears in the file }
 { license.txt that came with this Software.  }
 { }
 { ***
 }

 So basically, the Debian packages provided in Lenny include the wrong
 license for FPC-2.2.0 RTL and units.

 By upgrading to FPC-2.2.2 this issue is solved.

 Best regards,

 Mazen,

 I've uploaded emacs22 22.2+2-5 unstable which contains two bug fixes
 that I believe should be considered for Lenny. Please let me know if
 you would like me to do anything further.

 The first change fixes a bug that was affecting other packages.
 Debian's Emacs would signal an error if /usr/bin/mail wasn't an
 executable, even if it was never used. The change effectively delays
 the error until the mailer is actually used, while still making sure
 that the user will see the error.

 The second fix makes Debian's Emacs more consistent across the various
 architectures. Previously, the i386 emacs22 was compiled against
 libasound2 and had sound support, but most of the other architectures
 probably didn't. This package adds a build dependency on
 libasound2-dev for all the Debian architectures except those based on
 the Hurd or Freebsd.

 Thanks for the help.

Freeze Exception for php-geshi

2008-11-13 Thread Bennz Baumann
Dear release managers,

I'm GeSHi author Benny Baumann.

Recently there have been reports about two bugs in the currently
packaged version of php-geshi for testing (1.0.7.22-1) that have both
been fixed in the latest version (as included in unstable, v1.0.8.1-1).

While the first bug allowed for code execution under rare conditions and
could be fixed quite easily, the second one allows for Denial of Service
attacks (from remote) while fixing that one would require much more
efforts as there have been lots of changes between that release and the
bugfix thus making locating a way to backport that particular issue
complecated.

Thus I'm asking you if you could unlock the freeze for php-geshi to
allow upgrade to 1.0.8.1-1 especially since that release also fixed a
lot of old highlighting issues.

Best regards,
BenBE.

The #include is commented out because the code is already included

change anything.

The code changes other than the path added for the newer machines have
no impact given the new code won't be used at runtime; the Macs only
support the UGA protocol and do not have the Graphics Output protocol
yet. The changes were already in SVN and there was no point in
reverting them given the code has been tested, is known to work and
known to be safe.

to unblock it I understand but the package has been severely
unmaintained. It really probably should be removed but has fairly high
popcon stats. Here is the changelog of the changes I made:

mpg321 (0.2.10.5) unstable; urgency=low

 * QA upload.
   + Set maintainer to Debian QA Group [EMAIL PROTECTED].
 * Add large file support. (Closes: #152392).
   + Thanks to Clint Adams for the patch.
 * Avoid crashing on non mp3 files. (Closes: #458035).
   + Thanks to Justin Pryzby for the patch.
 * Don't scan file before playback. (Closes: #500102).
   + Thanks to Mikko Rapeli for the patch.
 * Don't leave dangling symlink. (Closes: #227713).
   + Thanks to Donggyoo Lee for the patch.
 * README.remote should use @P not @S. (Closes: #153596).
   + Add STOP comments.
 * Make AM_PATH_AO XIPH_PATH_AO in configure.ac.
 * Escape hyphens in manpage.
 * Bump debhelper build-dep to 5.
 * Move DH_COMPAT to debian/compat and set to 5.
 * Make distclean not ignore errors.
 * Bump Standards Version to 3.8.0.

HLBR package: update needed

2008-11-13 Thread Eriberto
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all!

I am HLBR package maintainer. HLBR is an IPS (Intrusion Prevention System).

Recently, my sponsor (Faw) made the upload of the 1.6-2 revision. This
revision fixed a typo in manpage and a mistake in an attack rule. I
don't made changes in program or package structure. Then, this package
will work as well as before.

The rule actualization is very important to the well working of the
program. Please, consider to update my package in Lenny.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Eriberto - Brazil

Pre-approval for matplotlib/0.98.1-1+lenny4 upload to t-p-u

2008-11-13 Thread Sandro Tosi
Hello!
As already announced by Kumar on #d-release, he has prepared an
upload to t-p-u to fix an important bug (#505527) on matplotlib.

Attached you can find the very small debdiff between lenny3 and
lenny4: may you please give it a look and let us know if it's fine for
you if we upload it?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Sandro

PS: I would like to kindly ask you to re-consider the possibility to
accept 0.98.3 for lenny: it was already rejected once [1], but all the
bugs fixed with t-p-u uploads were already fixed in 0.98.3 release.

+1

please note that we can remove all the Debian specific changes (like new
-dbg package) if it will allow us to have 0.98.3 in Lenny.

Yeah, I know that there's lots of stuff to review in 0.98.3 but please
note that matplotlib is the only package in our teams (DPMT and PAPT,
284 packages in total) which is blocking release of Lenny and we would
love to have all the upstream fixes in Lenny.

please unblock slony1

2008-11-13 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

 The new upstream version of slony1 is only a bugfix release and the
diff is rather minor, if one does --exclude=CVS from the diff and
notices that a big number of changes are repetitive.

 The propably most important fix (amongst the other bug fixes) is a
memory leak fix, but even the other fixes would be nice to have in
lenny.

 Thanks in advance for your response,
Rhonda

Isn't the whole point of xulification that we don't need to update
Iceweasel for security issues any more? Or should it be updated for
non-security updates as well?

 I have uploaded node_0.3.2-6_i386.changes which fixes this. Can you
 please unblock it?

Thanks, but would you mind changing the dependency to:

  Depends: openbsd-inetd | inet-superserver

That is, following the standard procedure $preferred_package |
$virtual_package.

I would've mentioned in my previous mail if I would've thought of it.

The browser specific security updates, if there are, still need to be
addressed in iceweasel. Here, it seems we have a crash fix in
browser/components/places/src/nsPlacesImportExportService.cpp and some
minor fixes that won't hurt. It will also be better to have the same
iceweasel and xulrunner versions in the lenny release. This doesn't imply
we want to do the same for stable updates, though.
