Re: [Flightgear-devel] MacOS version of v0.9.10 ?

I'm not sure why there hasn't been very many Mac developers latching on to our project? Maybe there just aren't that many mac developers out there relative to other platforms? It certainly feels like that - saying 'I use a Mac' around any open-source project is a sure-fire way to increase one's workload. There are a couple of FG specific things that affect the Mac - one, the performance is only just about adequate on a three-year-old Mac (whereas the equivalent windows or linux box runs FG fine, I'm pretty sure), and the lack of a proper, integrated GUI hurts Mac take up even more (Mac users regard command lines as an affront to their dignity)This, of course, is why I'm doing the work to get the XML GUI working at startup. I also have some patches to make FG search in more traditional locations for add-on scenery and user preferences ($HOME/Library/Application Support/FlightGear); I just keep forgetting to to clean them up and submit them.James

He built a separate web page which appears to be unmaintained now as it lists only the 0.9.9 release: http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/ If I may suggest an alternative interpretation. Some time ago, probably well before the v0.9.9 release, we all made it through some discussions about what are the appropriate venues to share our beliefs and I think we came to a some sort of consensus although perhaps hesitantly. And we have all been able to move forward together. From personal emails to Arthur, he is just really busy, (like most of the rest of us.) And he decided that he needed some time off from the project (hopefully unlike most of the rest of us.) :-) I don't think it is fair or helpful to imply that there are personal feelings involved especially tracing back to this far distant event. Arthur emailed me that he would try to get a v0.9.10 build out the door, but I don't have any current status or ETA. We need to try to keep (and encourage) the Mac people we have, because replacements are extremely difficult to come by. :-) Regards, Curt. -- Curtis Olsonhttp://www.flightgear.org/~curt HumanFIRST Program http://www.humanfirst.umn.edu/ FlightGear Project http://www.flightgear.org Unique text:2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d --- Using Tomcat but need to do more? I produced a 'pre' binary which seemed to work ok for those who tried it, and worked for me on both 10.3.9 and 10.4.x. It has no GUI, unlike Arthur's 0.9.9 release, because I don't really want to go down that path. Intel Macs are also giving some trouble, I got crashes after 'a little while' (not quite a minute, but enough time to take off from KSFO) in the OpenAL code. Haven't had time to dig into that any further. In any case, I'll post an 'official' 0.9.10 package tomorrow.James -- There is no such thing as a humble opinion.
