[Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT
Hi, I think X freezes with nVidia cards on multiple-core systems have been a major pain for Linux users for a long time. My troubles began in 2008 on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, when I upgraded my system to a dual-core Athlon64 X2. At the moment I'm living (not too happily) with an ATi 3450 HD, which behaves horribly in Compiz but, at least, doesn't freeze my system. Guess you don't make a great bargain when you migrate to Linux for stability and you find out that a video driver makes it even worse than in Windows! ;) Back then, I reported the bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted- modules-2.6.24/+bug/151382 As I said there, I believe my problems stemmed from dual-core kernel CPU switching, coupled with nVidia drivers trying to distribute GPU load over multiple CPUs. In post #21 I reported that looking around over the net, I had found a way to reduce (not eliminate, though) the problem, thanks to this command: echo 1 /sys/devices/system/cpu/sched_mc_power_savings (you must be super-user to issue it) It would be interesting to see if it can help with today's kernels, too. I have no more my old nVidia card, but if someone wants to try it, there's the more correct way that Martin Zuther suggested in reply to my post: There is however an easier way to achieve it - just start your system, open the terminal and type: echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/sched_mc_power_savings You can verify that it works with cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/sched_mc_power_savings Hope it helps find the reason of this sneaky bug! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733374 Title: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/733374/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 946704] Re: nautilus crash on copy from remote ssh server
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 945927] Re: ld incorrectly gives 'undefined reference'
Pardon? I DID put the c file before any library, as I have clearly written in my bug report. I cannot see how any of the comments in the release notes or changed link tool chain relate to my problem: I am putting an explicit -lm in the command line, and then the linker opens that library, and it sees the right symbols, and yet, it does not link libm, probably because also libfoo would have used it, too, but since libfoo isn't been linked, libm is apparently kicked out. [Bug 946965] [NEW] alt+tab makes unity crashed (with gdb logs)
Public bug reported: Expected results: alt+tab hot-key successfully switch the application to foreground for me. Actual results: Sometimes it crashed the window system, and most time it works Reproduce: 1. login 2. open gnome-terminal via unity panel 3. open chromium-browser via unity panel 4. press alt + tab (sometimes it will crash, if not, re-do it again.) I attached gdb log in the bug, it seems the error happened at unity::switcher::SwitcherController::CompareSwitcherItemsPriority, I've tried print the value when specific the frame #2 in gdb, print first-Type() will return me an actual ApplicationType but print second-Type() will cause me a segmentation fault.
